Mr. Liu graduated with a master’s degree from South China Agricultural University in 1995, member of the Communist Party of China.
Throughout his career, Mr. Liu has held various positions in agricultural research and administration. Notably, he served as the Deputy Director and later as the Director of the Guangzhou Vegetable Research Institute from January 1993 to August 1998. Subsequently, he held the position of Director at the Guangzhou Agricultural Sciences Institute from December 1999 to June 2003. Additionally, he served as the Party Secretary of the Guangzhou Agricultural Sciences Institute (Academy) from July 2003 to October 2013.
Mr. Liu has been actively involved in professional organizations and committees. He held roles such as director of the China Horticultural Society, vice chairman of the Guangdong Horticultural Society, executive vice chairman of the Guangdong Vegetable Industry Association, chairman of the Guangzhou Vegetable Society, and vice chairman of the Guangzhou Seed Trade Association. He also contributed as an expert and committee member for vegetable variety evaluation in the Guangdong Crop Variety Approval Committee during its fifth to seventh sessions. Furthermore, he participated as a member of the Ninth and Eleventh Guangzhou Municipal Political Consultative Conference and as a special delegate in the Tenth Conference.
In recognition of his expertise, Mr. Liu was granted the Special Government Allowance by the State Council in August 2005 and was honored as an Outstanding Expert of Guangzhou in May 2007.
His technical work has primarily focused on vegetable germplasm collection, preservation, and utilization, as well as the breeding of new vegetable varieties and the promotion of cultivation techniques.
Over the years, Mr. Liu has achieved significant milestones:
- He has led or participated in the development of 19 newly approved crop varieties.
- His research contributions include over 40 published papers and 6 co-authored works, with a notable representative work being the “Guangzhou Vegetable Variety Chronicle” (2016).
- His scientific and promotional achievements have garnered 40 provincial and ministerial awards. Among these, he received the Third Prize of the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture’s Agricultural Science and Technology Award (as the second contributor), two Second Prizes of Guangdong Science and Technology Awards (as the first and sixth contributors), and three Third Prizes (as a participant). Additionally, he was honored with the First Prize of Guangzhou Science and Technology Award (as the sixth contributor) and a total of 13 Second and Third Prizes (as a participant).
- Mr. Liu has also received 20 awards for his contributions to promotion. His work on these varieties and technologies has significantly impacted both the economy and society.
